The Universum 6000 is a pleasant surprise, a fully automatic turntable with direct drive, “S” tonearm, repeat function, selection of three record sizes and automatic return at the end of the record.
The operation is stable and accurate, visually with a typical design of the 70s and good construction.
In terms of sound, it offers a clear and balanced performance, exceeding what would be expected from a model with this lock.
Less positive point: the original connection is via 5-pin DIN and not RCA, requiring adapter or conversion to standard (RCA).
The brand Universum did not have its own production line so there are rumors on the internet that some models of the brand, namely this one, were manufactured in the late 70s by the prestigious Micro Seiki. In my research at a certain point I ran into an ONKYO CP-8000F, which seems to be the twin brother of the Universum 6000, which made some sense for me because building the Universum never seemed to me to be the style of construction of the devices I had from Micro Seiki, for me it makes more sense to have been built by Onkyo or in the same OEM factory where the Onkyo would be built. There is still some doubt to me…
In short: a good choice for those looking for a solid vintage equipment from the 70s at an affordable price still today.
